602: The port is already open

Check for fax software or other software that might be attempting to use the modem. Go to Start / Programs / StartUp, check here to see if programs, fax or telephone related, are in the folder. If there is close or remove the program.

Also...

You can do a quick boot, go to Start / Shut Down... Select Restart, while holding down the Shift key click the OK button. Wait until it says "Starting Windows 98..." and let go of the Shift key.

Also...

Hold down Ctrl & Alt keys and hit the Delete. A "Close Programs" window will pop-up. Look for Rnaapp in the list. If found select it by clicking on it once and the clicking the End Task button. You may have to do this 1 or 2 mores times, sometimes Rnaapp doesn't close right away.

629: The port was disconnected by the remote machine

Go to My Computer / Dial-Up Networking, right mouse button click on the Cove.net icon and select Properties

Verify that you are using the correct username and password.

Also...

Check the phone number you are dialing and make sure you are not dialing the area code with the phone number. Also if you do not have call waiting on your phone and its enabled (*70,) or its next to the phone number; disable it or remove it.

Also...

Check to see if TCP/IP is installed. Go to Start / Settings / Control Panel, click on the Network icon.
Look for "TCP/IP" installed.

630: The port was disconnected due to hardware failure

Verify that the dialer is looking at the correct modem. Go to My Computer / Dial-Up Networking , right mouse button click on the Cove.net icon and select Properties . In the field Connect using: , look to see if your modem is selected in the drop down list. If not, drop down the list select your modem and click OK button.

If you have an internal modem, restart the computer and see if the modem will respond. If the modem is external; turn the modem off and then back on.

Also...

Go to Start / Settings / Control Panel . Double click on the Modems icon. Click the Diagnostic tab, click the COM port corresponding with your modem and click the More Info... button. If you don't receive a response from the modem it maybe necessary to remove the modem and then reinstall it.

To do this go back to Control Panel / Modems in the General tab, select your modem and click the Remove button. Restart your computer and follow the prompts to reinstall your modem.

635: Unknown error

Go to My Computer / Dial-Up Networking right mouse button click on the Cove.net icon and select Properties . Click the Server Type tab and verify that Enable software compression and TCP/IP are the only ones selected. Click the TCP/IP settings... button and verify that Server assigned IP address , Server assigned name server addresses , Use IP header compression , and Use default gateway on remote network are selected. Click OK to save changes.

Go to My Computer / Dial-Up Networking right mouse button click on the CCC icon and select Properties . Click the Server Type tab. Take the check out of the box that says Require encrypted password .
